Are your solar panels secure?

Recently there has been another incident of a solar panel coming off a campervan and colliding with the windscreen of the following vehicle. Whilst there were fortunately no injuries this time around, this isn’t always the case. In Tasmania during 2020, three people lost their lives after hitting a solar panel that was dislodged from a caravan.[1] These are not isolated incidents.

These incidents are avoidable by checking your solar panels, and any other accessories fixed to your recreational vehicle, are secure.

If you are performing DIY, make sure you do your research and ensure you are attaching your accessories correctly and safely. The best option is to have the solar panels glued and screwed. Or better yet, go to a reputable professional for your modifications.

We often forget about things like solar panels as we don’t see them on the daily, but it is worth looking as it is your responsibility to keep your vehicle safe on the roads.
